It’s been a bad couple of weeks for Arsenal who lost for the third consecutive game tonight 2-0 to Schalke in the Champions League. Some quick thoughts on the game:
- I can handle Arsenal losing games. Every team goes through a tough period during any season. What worries me is the lack of energy that the team showed at Norwich carried over to tonight’s game. There is no excuse for a performance that flat in the Champions League and this losing streak is starting to expose some of the flaws in the Arsenal squad.
- Santos was terrible tonight and I don’t understand why Arsenal did not bring in Koscielny and switch Vermaelen to left-back. Yes TV does not like to play left-back anymore, but Santos is simply not good enough.
- In midfield, teams have figured out that if they take Cazorla out of the game, that Arsenal have nobody with the guile and class to create chances. Hopefully when Jack comes back that will change, but that is putting a lot of pressure on someone who has not played in 15 months.
- Up-front Gervinho once again was massively disappointing. His dive was an embarrassment and the booing he received when he was replaced showed what the Arsenal fans thought of it. But what Gervinho’s performance the last week shows is that he is to up and down for Arsenal to rely on him for goals. And at the moment, there is nobody in the Arsenal line-up who makes you think that he is going to score today.
- Arsene Wenger watched the game from the directors box as he served his third and final (I think) Uefa touchline ban. And I think in this game we missed Wenger. Waiting until the 76th minute to bring in Giroud, and the 83rd to give a chance to Arshavin and Gnabry was too late as Bould showed he was out his depth tonight.

The mid-field against QPR must be Wilshere, Carzola, Arteta. Ramsey, Gervinho and Santos must be dropped (not even on the bench). Vermaelen( like it or not) moves to left back, Koscieny partners Mertesacker, Jenkinson at right back. Walcott or Ox-C on the right flank, Podolski on the left…..Giroud must play out the full 90 minutes and prove his worth in the centre. We`re in trouble Mr Wenger.
Agreed, except also drop walcott and giroud and replace them with any bloke off the street, should increase our chances.
Gibbs will be back for the game against QPR. More than Gervinho, I believe Ramsey should be told to go and play for the reserves…..what a rubbish player he is developing into. We need a world class centre forward and not to mention Micheal Vorm as the new stopper.
Start Carzola from the bench in our next game,it’s shown that if Santi is not click or outplay the whole team will be in a mess.
Come January transfer market please buy and sell,buy Defensive Mid-fielder to allow Arteta play the role he played last season and sell the likes of Djourou, Squilachi and co

Gervinhio should grow hair and then go play with the hubcaps on the M25. What a waste of human life.
Ramsey, pure shite. Spends more time in the hair salon than on the training pitch.

I despise the aforementioned scum and if I saw any of them on the Holloway Road, I don’t know if I would be able to control myself.
Ah, same ol story, if u wana play arsenal, jst keep it tight nd organised in ur defnce nd then b disciplind. There has to b dynamisn in wengas coachin style, he is too rigid in hs thns nd dat is makin hs coachin style outdated. I fnk if we continue like dis, thrs a big problem, we need a drastic response nd pls give wilshere rest,dnt mount any pressure on him.
The problem is not who starts and who sits. The quality in this team is good enough. we just simply need to psychologically prepare well for every game.
They lost to Norwich on sunday because of overconfidence. They thought they would just turn up and win the game. When Norwich stood their ground we did not know how to react!
Very often when we win one game, the players and managers overtstate our strenght..”we shall win the league”.”we have the best midfield in the premiership”..etc. players must recognise that we are rebuilding and therefore work extremely hard in every game to achieve a result.

Correct observations, most of it. Extremely bad judgement in bringing in Santos for over 6M. He is a nightmare of a player, a timebomb to explode in our own home. Haven’t seen someone play so bad in long time in Arsenal shirt. When ever you would watch the Schalke right flank, you would hold your heart that another goal is there to concede. And, he doesn’t learn at all. He would find an excuse for a tackle, show his frustrations at others after one miss and the other. Hard passes, too ambitious ones, hard touch. Good for 5 yards and extremely sad for rest of it. Goodness me, I haven’t been so critical of a player for so long.
Bright points – Gnarbry – fantastic 10 min cameo and taught seniors how to try in a game like this, Mertesacker – saved atleast 2 goals, which otherwise we would have conceded courtsey mr. Santos. Cazorla – was tricky but absolutely no support, you just can’t weave magic for yourself, need support all around.
Frm d first day i heard dat wenga bot podolski i didn show any sign of joy or hapinex,he has no quality 2 play in espn mostly at arsenal he lacks pace nd strenth,skils nd also not a gud passer.wenga should plss go 2 market in january 4 a defencive milfieder nd a striker nd let dat striker b BA,i was vry disapointed last night i culdn’t even find my joy again til.wenga shuld also realise dat arsenal doesn’t often win matches wit out pacy winga’s
I agree 100% with Ray’s comment; Mr Wenger’s coaching style is outdated and already decoded, we need a change of coach! Im sure this will not be a popular post but let us learn from AVB Chelsea exit, the club ended the year with 2 trophies.
Wenger’s playing style is too, too slow and in the bid of recording higher possession rate, they allow opposions to re-group easily; thats why they had just 1 shot at goal yesterday!
