Why is Arsenal rushing Fabregas and Van Persie back so soon?

by David on July 18, 2010

I was shocked to read that Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie will be joining up with Arsenal next week in Austria as the Gunners move into the second phase of their pre-season training.

Considering the importance of these two players to Arsenal’s success next season, the fact that they both has injury plagued years last season and the fact that they only finished playing in the World Cup Final a week ago, why are they reporting so soon?

Consider what Liverpool is doing. Liverpool’s England contingent of Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Glen Johnson, Denmark’s Daniel Agger and Slovakia’s Martin Skrtel are all due to return to Liverpool’s Melwood training ground to begin training. These are players whose World Cup ended weeks before Fabregas and van Persie.

Argentina duo Javier Mascherano and Maxi Rodriguez are due back a week on Monday while Spain’s World Cup winners Fernando Torres and Jose Reina and Holland’s Dirk Kuyt and Ryan Babel do not return until after July 29th.

And Liverpool will not rush their World Cup stars back into action too soon because their sports science recommends against it.

“They are telling me we would be very foolhardy to use players who have only been training for three or four days on the back of the World Cup that early on because that will affect us further on down the road, says Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson. ”If we feel we are endangering our chances of doing well in the Premier League by risking players in the early stage of the Europa League, it will be a decision the club will have to take. You have to follow the guidance.”

Where are the Arsenal sports science people and why are they not standing up and telling Arsenal that Fabregas and van Persie need more time on vacation to rest and recover?

They’ve both had plenty of rest. RVP spent almost the entire season out and Fabregas was recuperating in Barcelona since he broke his leg against B*rca in the UCL. They’ll be right.

team gelling is more important to me than sports science,

i’m sure wenger won’t have those two in heavy training to quickly. but i for one think it’s great those two figures will be with the team in austria

Actually, Cesc and RvP wont be coming back this Monday. Wenger said we’ll be getting 6 players back for the Austria training camp and by my reckoning, those 6 players are Clichy, Sagna, Eboue, Song, Diaby and Vela (those who didnt reach the knockout stages). Bendtner had already gone back to get his injury checked and he might be out for a little while. Too bad you wasted your time bashing the Arsenal staff and writing a pointless article.

Well, I Think He Should Leave RVP out longer than cesc because RVP Trained And Played Near Enough All 90 mins Of Each Match, Where As Cesc only played about a total of 45 mins(being Generous), also i think this is a tactical move for cesc, so he gets away from those Barca P**CKS!!

No Wenger said they will have 3 weeks off and return to training after the Emirates Cup…

I’d like to think the medical contingent at Arsenal are wise
enough to object to the coaching staff bringing Cesc and
RVP back so early from a WC final. Arsene is smart enough
to know this and I’m not really sure of this stories validity
because FIFA rulings state that players must have a manditory
vacation of X amount of weeks before returning to their clubs.

i just read on the gunning hawk that RVP and fabregas wont be in the 6 that are coming back because they both lasted the whole distance in the world cup, they apparently wont be joining the team until the very last pre-season game.

I’ve read that Arsenal will bring back six players but I haven’t read anywhere that Fabregas and van Persie are included in that six.

even if they do come back it doesn’t mean they are going to be working their asses off. it could be that arsenal want to start building the team spirit early in the pre-season by getting two star players and leaders back to help shape it.

also the club could be anxious to get cesc back from all the barca shite in spain.

i dont think that we will see either player untill much later in friendlies.

arsenal are one of the most progressive clubs in the world in regards to sports science and psychology. i wouldnt worry to much mate, dont be so quick to criticize our great club!

David, David, David, David … Dave.

Where have you heard that Cesc and RVP are being rushed back? And please don’t tell me you’ve worked it out for yourself.

Duh?

Both Cesc and RVP have three COMPULSORY weeks off after the WC and can’t come back even if they wanted to.

Who are the six AW is referring to? OK, you’ll need one full hand and a bit of your second for this so pay attention.

Diaby, Eboue, Clichy, Song, Sagna, and Vela.

Bendtner should have been a seventh, but he’s both Baronessed and thigh-crocked laying flat on his back in Elsinore.

Of course, one of these six assumptions could also be crocked and Wenger will announce that Silvestre has re-signed (just like a new signing – yea!) but I doubt it.

Don’t forget Cesc and Robin both had lengthy lay-off’s.

Rubbish post. No one from the club has said that Fabregas and Van Persie are going to the Austrain camp. Arsene stated during the post-match interview that 6 of the players were coming back, and they dont include the above mentioned duo. Do your research next time. And you should probably delete this post if you want to preserve your credibility……

Just because they were called to Austria doesnt mean they will play

I think you are wrong on this. RVP and CESC will only be back when the Emirates cup is played.
F*ck Fifa rules say that a player must have at least 3 weeks complete rest after playing their last game in the world cup. They played on 11 July so thereby they can only start training starting 1 August.

The 6 players coming back will be the 3 French players, Eboue, Bendtner. Vela still has a few days more as Mexico went to the next round.

Before you think I can’t count to 6: I forgot to mention Song as the 3th player coming back.

I highly doubt this. AW has mentioned that 6 players will be coming back today but nowhere was it mentioned that Cesc and RVP will be be part of the 6. I would think it would be Clichy, Diaby, Sagna, Song, Bednter and Eboue. Vela will probarly be joining them a bit later and last would be RVP and Cesc. Besides FIFA rules are clear on this, so I don’t think RVP and Cesc would be allowed back even if we wanted them back.

Here we go again…..even before the pre-season starts. The negative worm is dragged out from under the stone. Some report or other says that Cesc and RvP are joining the squad in Austria before they should. Automatically, this must give birth to bile against AW, Arsenal FC or the Club’s medical people. What about the Board of Directors?
For Heaven’s sake, calm down and think positive.

The six going to Austria doesn’t include Cesc and RVP.
Check your facts pal.

Re my blog above, if the two had arrived at camp (say) a week later, the cry would then be that AW had left no time for the latecomers to gel. No chance for 3 points against Liverpool and the negative thinkers would be happy.
