Who is leaving this summer?

by David on May 14, 2010

almuniaThe newspapers are full about not only who Arsene Wenger will be signing this summer, but also what Gunners are on their way out of The Emirates.

The most frequently mentioned players to leave Arsenal summer are Gael Clichy, William Gallas, Tomas Rosicky, Eduardo, Philippe Senderos, Mikael Silvestre and Manuel Almunia.

Gallas, Senderos and Silvestre are all out of contract next month and they will all be allowed to leave as the club, a move that will free up cash to sign two very good players.

The best of the rest is undoubtably Gail Clichy, who at 24 still has his best football ahead of him. But with Kieran Gibbs waiting in the wings and a potential £10m plus offer from Barcelona and Real Madrid this summer, it will be hard for Wenger to turn that kind of money down. Especially if he can reinvest those funds by further strengthening the squad.

I realize that Rosicky and Eduardo were given new contracts this season but neither of can stay healthy and if Arsenal get offers from them, I cannot see Wenger turning them down.

There is no doubt that Wenger has lost faith in Almunia and I cannot see any way that he is back as Arsenal’s #1 next season, and I cannot see him settle to be the backup here. So I expect Almunia to leave also.

So that is seven Arsenal players who I expect to be playing somewhere else next season. Did I miss someone that you think will also leave this summer?

I think Denilson is no longer needed. Clichy and Rosicky should be allowed to stay for being an integral part of Arsene wenger’s squared. For Eduardo, think loan wil be better for him to regain his form.

The obvious ones are like you mentioned, Almunia/Gallas/Senderos/Silvestre/Fran. I think Rosicky and Eduardo could be used in deals for new players and then there’s the question over Clichy/Cesc/Arshavin as all 3 have made noises to departures this summer??? I have noproblem if all left, if they do not want to play at the Arsenal then leave! New faces i would like to see replace them are…Buffon/Mertesacker/Yaya/Afellay/Chamakh. Also bring back Lansbury&Wilshere to add depth to the sqaud and some English feel to play along side the likes of Eastmond/Gibbs/Walcott. If Ramsey makes a full recovery then we will be in my mind a stonger outfit!

It is the stupidity of these type of articles that galls me. there are obvious cases of who might leave but when you make a statement like that about AW finding it hard to resist £10 million for Clichy which he could then use to strengthen the team it becomes ridiculous!
So he sells Clichy and then Gibbs gets injured and then we are fkd.Yeah that makes sense eh. then there is the price of only £10 million for the fastest left back in the country who also has great close control at speed. AW would have an impossible task trying to replace the player with any sort of similar quality for £10 mil which is peanuts in today’s market.

How thick and retarded are you?

100% agree!!! Ok cole and evra are the two best Left backs in the world with Clichy just behind, but Clichy is 24!!! they are 28 and 29!!! He is worth well over 20m. Funny how our own fans underestimate our players by such huge proportions.

It is amazing that eventhough Arsenal is short of world class players, the only world class players generally regarded as the backbones of emirates are about to leave us defenceless and Wenger is doing nothing about it.

Out Almunia,Gallas,Senderos,Silverstre,Eboue,Denilson,Diaby,Rosicky,Eduardo,Bentner

I would like Clichy to stay, with Gibbs as back-up. I dont think we need Traore any more. We have Botelho coming back from loan and Cruise got his first taste of first team football in CL and looked ok.
Gallas, Senderos, Almunia, Silvestre, Gilbert, Jay Simpson, Gavin Hoyte, and Randall will all go. Freeing up some finances for wages. I wouldnt be heartbroken if Denilson was sold as well as Ramsey was showing he is a better player and will be back for next season.

Bendtner MUST leave. id also like to see rosicky, eduardo and diaby leave. we need dynamic players who can change games in midfield, particularly on the wings

Go away !! Diaby, almunia, senderos, gallas, eduado, bendtner, cambell, silvester especially. But stay clichy. Fabrigas,i know is tempting, but if he wants to let him go for a gaint amout of million pounds + yaya. And if all this happens let the cash go straight to the transfer market and not the bank. Wenger i beg you, please!!!

Keith! How can you say Eboue, Diaby and Bendtner is not good enough?? I must say all of them have shown what they can do this season, especially Diaby and Bendtner have proved themselves with huge potential. The lack of consistency isn’t all there foult, it is the team as whole. Eboue is really coming strong now, and adds fuel to the attack everytime he gets thrown in, much better going forward than Sagna (although Sagna is rock solid defensively). Who do you mean should backup Sagna if Eboue leaves?

I agree with you on Almunia, Gallas, Senderos, Silvestre and Eduardo. They should all leave ASAP!

The following players listed bellow should leave. Almunia, febianski, senderos, silvester, denilson, eduado, if gallas is not ready to extend his contract he can go too. The new players i want are as follows :- lloris or joe hart, hengeland, chiellini or cahill, goucuff or yaya, milner, baletolli. In arsene we stand.

Fully agree with Keith above. Also add the following players to your list for going out this season:
Vela (doesn’t take his chances), RVP (perpetually crocked), Fabregas (perpetually linked to Barca), Sagna (doesn’t have a good cross), Walcott (is a pacy one trick pony), Ramsey (wouldn’t be the same player after the injury, so lets cut our losses now), Arshavin (outspoken & “lazy”), Nasri (hasn’t lived up to his potential) and Lord Wenger himself (doesn’t like to spend!)

Okay, if you didn’t get the joke, I was simply being sarcastic. Cos if Keith’s statement is true, world football must be in pretty dire straits given that a team with 9 (mostly first team) players finished 3rd in the league and reached the CL Quarter Finals! Either this, or that Keith is a twat who should go and support Spuds instead!

I can’t see clichy leaving the club, cos that is the only dependable left back we have.u can’t depend on the likes of inexperience gibbs and traore to block, but the rest can leave.

Loput May 14, 2010 at 11:00 am

Allowing Cesc, Arshavin go means Arsenal has to go back to the drawing board. My thinking is that the forward has been sharp but defensively vulnerable. Invest in the defense i.e goal keeper, the central defenders. leaving Clichy and sagna with gibbs and ebue as covers respectively. you may also need a back up for song in the defensive midfield. Yes the striking has problems with the lack of confidence in bendner, off form Eduado and inconsistent RVP, allow Bendner go and replace one to work with RVP

Obviously, this is all speculative, but if we are going on true odds, versus who we want to leave or think should leave.

Silvestre, Senderos, Gallas: All out of contract.
Eduardo: Age + difference since he’s recovered + Chamakh coming in.
Rosicky: This is if Wilshere doesn’t go back on loan so he can get minutes.
Almunia or Fabianski: One to remain as backup to (hopefully) new #1. Chesny as #3, Carling Cup goalie.

I think he bring in 3 (maybe 4, if Wenger doesn’t think a youth or loanee like Nordveit can be a productive backup CB…Djourou will be considered ‘like a new signing’):

Chamakh
New Goalie
New CB

Basically, we need 2 teams able to fight an even battle with the first team of EPL #1-8 and a 3rd team able to hold the ground in EPL: One suggestion is listed below and from those, I’d like AW to buy a top, top GK, one, or if Gallas leaves, two top CBs and leave it with that assuming Chamakh comes in. We have lots of cover for our midfielders and we need to remember that Ramsey, Wilshere, Diaby, Song, Eastmond, Henderson and all the other promising youngsters we have will get one year older and wiser. We need winners like Gallas and Campbell. If we need to replace Gallas, AW needs to buy an established, dominating CB (Hangeland?)

1st team:
New GK
Sagna, Gallas, Vermaelen, Clichy
Fabregas, Song, Nasri
Bendtner, v Persie, Arshavin

2nd team:
Almunia
Eboue, New CB, Djourou, Gibbs
Ramsey, Denilson, Diaby
Walcott, Chamakh, Rosicky

3rd team: A lot of very promising youngsters are coming through – it’s almost impossible to choose from all the Reserves/U18.
Mannone,
Hoyte, Nordtveit, Campbell, Bothelo
Wilshere, Eastmond, Henderson
Eduardo, Vela, Traore

am surprised to be hearing all this talk of players leaving. Over the years it has been easier for us to let players go than get new ones and this has to stop. This season we need to fill gaps not create more. its not long ago that we had arshavin as a lone striker (while injured) which he certainly cant do coz hes not built for that role. We’ve missed our defence and midfielders at certain times this season and as every season we say those players are like new sgnings coming back from injury we get the same injuries again and end up being depleted. I think most of the players mentioned as must leave could be rotated when the big guns are tired and we could use them in the FA cup and carling cup rather than fielding an under 18 team.

i miss those days when we competed for every competition we played in and this is the arsenal i wanna see again.

Eduardo is a top calls player. Wenger just uses him the wrong way. If they sell him it will come back to haunt them.

for me there is no need for driving Rosicky away as well as gael, cos rosicky ll improve more next season and Gael is d only solid left back dt we have. frgt about that lacker traore and forgeter gibbs, just leave them as gael assistants. Then at last don’t let cesc, nasri,RVP,vermaelen song, and sagna to go any where even if they want. But u hav to allow dt stupid russian to go and make a solid replacement even if it’s Eagles, the former man utd yonger best, that play for burnley this season.
wish success next season
