Wenger confirms Almunia is not number one

by David on July 19, 2010

Arsene Wenger confirmed over the weekend who we have known all summer. Manuel Almunia is no longer his first choice goalkeeper.

Wenger told Arsenal.com

“At the moment, in pre-season, there is no number one – you have to give a chance to everyone to show how good he is. You cannot decide that today.”

It is no secret that Arsenal are in the market for a new goalkeeper. Fulham’s Mark Schwarzer is the most likely signing, but I would not overlook Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastien Frey who has suddenly became available.

AW has done this before, he stated in last season that Almunia was not his number 1 but he then went on and persisted with him in Goal. I have a funny leaving that he will not sign a keeper and push the kid with the name ( scezny .. I think) into the deep end. Keep Almunia and Fabianski as back up. Call me crazy but this is just a gut feeling.
