Wenger Calls David Villa

by David on January 7, 2013

Arsene Wenger has spoken to Barcelona striker David Villa to convince him he should move to Arsenal, writes the Sunday People.

The Gunners are one of five clubs to have inquired about his availability but manager Wenger has opted for the personal touch to improve his chances of landing the 31-year-old Spain attacker.

Villa, who has scored 53 goals in 85 matches for Spain, is now hugely tempted by the possibility of a January move to the Emirates.

And while Barca are happy for discussions to take place, they have made it clear to both the player and Arsenal that they do not want to sell him until the summer.

Villa, who has also been linked with Chelsea, would love to stay in Spain but doesn’t believe he is still an integral part of Barca’s long-term plans, so wants a transfer now to give himself a new lease of life and prove he can make it in the Premier League.

Wenger is understood to have contacted Villa, with Barcelona’s permission, to explain his plans for the future. A deal this month would be worth £16million to the Catalan club – but that would drop to around £12m by the summer. Ideally Wenger wants him on board now but he is willing to wait until the summer if it is the only option.

In the meantime Wenger has been clearing put some of the deadwood in the Arsenal squad, sending Chamakh and Djourou out on loan. If he can move Arshavin and Squillaci, that would knock over £200,000 a week in wages off the Arsenal payroll. Money that could then be used to acquire someone like David Villa.

If Arsenal can somehow sign David Villa, then they may as well get over the departure of RvP. although 2 years older, Villa is still rated amongst best strikers in the world. He for one will finish the chances Arsenal have been missing lately.

In any case, signing David Villa is easier said than done

wenger has been under a lot of pressure lately, now he’s quite confused. after denying villa few years ago from wearing the arsenal shirt, he’s after a player he ones denied during his prime. what can arsenal get out of villa with their old age policy which states that players above the age of 30 is entitle to only a year or two contract.

Both are good. I think Villa would help us right now. Villa is world class striker plain and simple. Not so sure about Lopez. Lopez will work fine in the system but after a while IMO, and probably on the wing and not central. I would like them both.

A Wenger is the first fool that needs to leave Arsenal fc. He should stop fooling us by pointing to players he will never buy. The idiot is puting his carea on the line just to enable some usless board members smile home with cash in their pocket. AW go and give room to managers that are ready to restore the lost glory

I will be the last arsenal fan to believe AW. I have monitored him now for over 5 yrs i can bet anybody dat he will not buy anybody for this transfer market. His insuniation is there to check. Anytime a transfer market is open thats when you will hear from wenger dat so, so, and so person is coming back. Now he is on it again, Diaby is coming back, dis is coming back, dat is coming back till the window closes. Watch out !!! Till the last night of the transfer closure the journalist will ask him.

Journalist: which player do u have in mind as the window closes tonight.
Mr Wenger: No player

Till then
