Todays Transfer Talk

by David on June 25, 2010

Some of the Arsenal transfer stories I came across today:

Sol Campbell: Campbell is still unsigned as he apparently decides between a one-year deal with a team playing in Europe or a two-year deal at a lower level. Take the one year deal Sol. You can always resign again next summer.

Alex Song: Seems that Arsenal have turned down an offer of £4million from Turkish side Galatasaray for Song. He is much too valuable to Arsenal to let him go for that price.

Winston Reid of New Zealand: Reports in New Zealand say that Reid, one of the Kiwi’s stars in South Africa has attracted the interest of Arsenal. Reid is a right back and his age (20) and price (1.125 million pounds) fits the sort of player that Arsenal usually target.

Yoann Gourcuff: I saw the quote from Marouane Chamakh that “It would be terrific if Gourcuff joined Arsenal. ” Two things I struggle with about “the new Zidane”. I was not impressed with him at all in the World Cup and the release clause in his Bordeaux contract is around £21m. That is a little on the steep side for me.

Francis Coquelin and Laurent Koscielny: Coquelin has came out and said that he is interested in going to Lorient on loan which all but guarantees that Koscielny will be the new signing that Wenger has been promising.

Ryan Babel: There are various reports on Holland that Arsenal are set to offer Liverpool £10m to bring Babel to the Emirates. Babel, who is only 23, is desperate to leave Liverpool where he has struggled in his three seasons at Anfield. Babel is a player that does not impress me. £10m seems a lot for a player that I cannot see breaking into the Arsenal first eleven.

Nothing on Fabregas?
I am not sure about the stories on Fabregas. As far as I’ve seen, no one has stated from Arsenal or Cesc that he has asked to leave Arsenal. The stories about Pep being an idol also describe how Cesc says AW is his mentor. Therefore, the stories could easily be written differently.
My main comment on this is: What will help persuade Cesc on his decision to stay or go; Spain win in WC or not?

There are lots of stories about Fabregas Thomas but I am avoiding them until I get an actual quote from Cesc saying he wants to leave, We read that he does, but I have not seen or heard of a recent interview where he says that.

Babel has had a chequered career at Liverpool but from the odd times I saw him I thought he had some impact on the side. Wenger had the opportunity to snag him before the Scousers, as he did with Torrres, but in his wisdom declined. They were then going for a song. (pardon the pun). My feeling is we could use a specialist winger and under Wenger he could truly blossom and he`s young. Price around 8 million.

Song should not be sold for such a cheap price,Babel can add a little bit of quality and skill to the club.

Wenger need to bux a left footd winger or mid fielder to open various strategy alternatives in attack. Ayew has impressd at world cup and could be such a person

I’m pretty new on this blog, but regular on some others and It seems the same news and rumors all round. I think Babel can flourish in our team, I mean with all due respect to those who think he isn’t good enough for us or needed, Theo Walcott, Carlos Vela, Eduardo, were all not effective for us in terms of attacking. Babel has the speed Walcott has but more technical than Walcott, I’m not saying he should replace any of them, but having him will definitely add to our attackng, but i doubt this, and if we are getting anyone I hope it’s Eden Hazard over Joe Cole or Babel.
Is it me, or are ARsenal fans just too gulible and too full of false hope? I love ARSENAL and I want nothing but good things as long as it does not cost us an arm and a leg, I support must of our business of not paying over the odds and looking for diamonds in the rough, but sometimes if a talent is there, you can’t deny it and if it obviously fits the puzzle and completes the team, by all means get the player. I’m not as excited as most Gooners about the Lorient defender Laurent Koscielny, why we need or pay that high for an unproven Left sided CB is still confusing. Lets not get carried away and compare getting him with Vermaelen, TV5 played for a giant in Ajax and he was good! Most big clubs just didn’t take note of him as much. Going to Lorient to pick a player who only just broke through and paying almost 10million Euros for him is a bit worrying. My money is on a proven right sided CB to partner TV5 not a just known, mid table Left sided potential, i HOPE he is coming as cover for TV5. But we should be looking for his partner, Djourou is a gamble, if that is who Le prof is pinning his starting line up on.

Finally, I’m Tired of hearing the Fabregas saga on every media outlet, blog and gossip page. Good to see you didn’t mention his saga on this article.

Joe Cole is a welcome addition, a bit of qouta to our lack of English depth. But usual English overhype. I hope Wilshere is the real deal and does not flatter to deceive.

Hi,
Charlie George reckons Cesc will stay one more year, after that is anybody’s guess. He thought Sol Campbell would stay – probably need him as back up now that Gallas, Senderos and Sylvestre have gone.
