Thinking Formations

by David on July 14, 2010

Maroune Chamakh has been Arsenal’s big summer signing, but as the Gunners begin pre-season training (is it just me or did Arsenal start training very late this year?) it will be interesting to see where Arsene Wenger plays Chamakh next year.
I doubt that Van Persie or Fabregas will be back for the first Premier League game against Liverpool, considering their season just ended a couple of days ago, and the Liverpool game is about 30 days away.

But assuming we get to a position where Van Persie and Fabregas are both available how will Wenger set-up the team.

The most obvious formation is a 4-4-2 with Van Persie and Chamakh up front, with Nasi (Walcott), Song, Fabregas and Arshavin in midfield.

Lot of attacking power in that line-up and that is the formation I would expect to see Arsenal use, especially at home.

Away from home, or in Europe, that formation is a little too adventurous so I would expect to see Arsenal move to a 4-2-3-1 formation. The two in front of the Arsenal defence would be Diaby and Song.

The three midfield players ahead of them would be Nasri (Arshavin), Fabregas and Van Persie. Up front would be Chamakh.

What do you think of these formations? How do you think Arsenal will line up this season?

Fabregas and r.v.p will certainly be back for the first game of the season. no doubt about it, Wenger will not leave our two best players out!!

They will be off for 2 weeks, and back with the squad probably by the 2nd August

Great line ups. I like to watch Diaby play, so i prefer the second one.

I would go for 4-1-2-1-2. The most transformable formation, it would go like this

Schwarzer
Sagna – Koschielny – Vermaelen – Clichy
Song
Nasri Arshavin
Fabregas

Chamakh V.Persie

Nasri (walcot) and Arshavin can extend up to corner, whilst Fabregas can float in midfield. Song is the most efficient in defensive mid-field. WA

Knowing Wenger’s penchant for playing players out of position, I would envisage something like this

————-Van Persie————

Arshavin—–Fabregas—–Chamakh

————– Song —————

Clichy–Vermalaen–Koscielny–Sagna

FIFA rules says 3 weeks rest at least for the player, so I’m afraid 2 weeks rest and back to train is ruled out. But we can have a wonderful team to start even otherwise, Nasri and Arshavin will be rearing to go, and remember LP also will not have Torres and Kuyt! So, Game on! Win at Anfield, Title Mission on Arsenal! :)

Regarding the formation, I think if both C29 and RVp play together then, RVP will drop as the No. 10 Bergkamp kind of role! Attacking prowess, Defense however will be based on discipline and collectiveness!

it will be a 4-1-3-2 no diaby

Good idea Zeki!! And away from home:

Schwarzer
Sagna – Koscielny – Vermaelen – Clichy
Song – Diaby
v. Persie(Walcott) – Cesc – Arshavin(Nasri)
Chamakh (Bendtner)

I;m thinking 4-3-1-2

WE sacrifice wing play for a more central attack, sieze control of the midfield, a play 2 strikers.

sag dj verm clichy
song fab diaby
. . . arshavin……
rvp…. ….. chamack.

Now that we have Chamakh to put his head on the ball, I feel we need to play with 2 strikers, which means no more wing play and a controlling midfield. I’ll go 4-3-1-2 as well.

Sagna–Koscielny–Vermaelen–Clichy

If we get Frey that is. If not, swap him with Schwarzer or whoever Wenger sees fit to keep between the pipes.

I would prefer a 4-4-1-1. Similar to Man Utd’s. With RVP/Fabregas in the hole. RVP is a Bergkamp-type who can score big time. Fabregas can play in the hole or central midfield with Song and push up to join in the attacks with his long range shooters or laser guided passes. Chamakh/Bendtner/Theo/Eduardo can play as strikers. The latter 2 can be wingers but they are not effective at that.

Wingers will be dependent on Arsene’s choice. Nazri, Rosicky, Theo, Eduardo, Diaby on the left. Denilson can play in the hole as well. Since he’s more offensive minded.

I know diaby and song will start most games as far as they are fit as the two holding mid fielders with Fab (if he’s still around) playing ahead of them as the attacking midfielder.diaby will be more cm than dm depending on ball posession, walcott, nasri, arshavin, and eboue will wing it, van p will play supporting stricker and chammack will play top. clichy, sagna and verm will remain unchanged and my fingers are crossed on the other two positions X.

All sound good though but i go for 4-1-3-2 bcos we need someone who have a good pass to feed the striker, the back is okay a little than the last one we have before.why cant we use it like these
…………..Schwarzer……………
Sagna – Koschielny – Vermaelen – Clichy
……………….Song……………………..
Nasri Arshavin
Fabrigas
Charmark Van Persie

It would be good and great and like we all know Arshanvin really like Anfield so his going to score as usual hun…

(2)Sagna (6)Koscielny (5)Vermaelen (3)Clichy

(8)Song
(4)Cesc (10)Ramsey

(11)van Persie (7)Arshavin
(9)Chamakh

I’d go for this formation and stop with stupid numbers, sure it’s a squad game but a right back who’s number 3 is just stupid.
