Sol Campbell to stay at Arsenal

by David on July 22, 2010

The Sun is reporting that Sol Campbell has decided to sign for another season with Arsenal instead of going to Newcastle or Celtic.

When Arsenal signed Campbell in January I thought it was a bad move as Campbell had been out football since his Notts County experiment and I did not see how he could help Arsenal. I was very wrong.

Campbell played really well last season and he was a big presence in the dressing room, which is something that Arsenal was missing. Sol is not going to play every week. With Vermaelen, Koscielny and a fit again Djourou, Campbell is Arsenal’s fourth choice center-half.

He can play maybe 15 games this season and also be the voice of experience in what is still a young Arsenal team.

Overall, a good signing and it is great to see Sol back for one more season.

That’s our defensive signing then.

There’s no one else to come.

No new goalkeeper. No new centrehalf. We’re stuffed.

We get rid of Senderos, Gallas, and Silvestre and get only Koscielny.

Woo hoo us.

I Also Too See Doughts On Us Signing Someone Else…
I Think Wenger See That He has Enough Experiance/Youth In Defence
And Stating That The Goal Keepers Have To Fight For There Place,
I Think This Means He Will Pick The Best Of Out The Selection We Have :/
Shame Tho Would Like A New Goal Keeper For Deffinate (y)

@ es lol your trying to make it seem more bad than it is. You know senderos hasnt really been an arsenal player for 2 seasons now. So we lost him ages ago. He shouldn’t be mentioned really.

Djourou was out so we have gained him back. Look at the bright side not negative!

So like
+Koscielny Djourou

- Gallas Silvestre

Lets not forget we have song that can play in CB position as well, given that Denilson, Frimpong and Eastmond can cover for Song alongside Diaby.

Also we have the newcomer Nordveit, whom can play as CB and also as a DM. Nordveit is the next big thing in the arsenal first team this season, alongside Frimpong, Eastmond, Lansbury and JET. If these young lads can keep their heads down and work hard, then I am sure they would have a future as bright as wilshere and ramsey!!

Arsenal are all equip now to challenge for honours next season. With campbell staying, we need to only sign another GK to replace BOTH fabianski and almunia. However, another outfield player (defender or DM) would be great news to us too. Eduardo is gone, and I think we do not need to replace him at all, given that we have vela, walcott and arshavin that can do the job on top of the usual RvP, Chamakh and Bendtner..

Time will tell. I’d say we’ll get one more player in. Hopefully Vertonghen comes in and then the team will be ready for the title. Fabianski will either improve or be replaced by Szczesny and with game time both will become good keepers. I’d prefer Szczesny but there must be a reason why Wenger persists with Fabianski.

I don’t understand the arrogance of all those who keep critizising Arsene. Have they ever managed a team to EPL titles, CL final or FA Cup title. We have a Young squad and most of them will improve.

Are u saying u cud never criticise benitez coz he won a champs league? We are supporters, we are allowed to voice an opinion, positive or negative. For a title chasing side, if thats our four cbs, we myt get away with it nw,but cum April we wil suffer, Again.

what about vito manonne he is a keeper i can be comfortable with and i dont see why wenger should make him first choice then flapianski second. my ideal starting eleven if we are playing 4-5-1 would be
vito
eboue Koscielny vermaelen clichy
rosicky song fabregas wilshere/frimpong arshavin
van persie
if we are playing 4-3-3 vito
eboue koscielny vermaelen clichy
nasri song fabregas
van persie chamakh arshavin
for subs i would love to see craig eastmond, campbell, flapianski, walcott, JET, vela, lansbury jay simpson. all should feature

Well said T2T
Campbell going to be a back up so dont worry about it.. and most of the times we lost we had campbel and silvestre at the back now things have changed maybe less games might be lost!
