Sol Campbell – Are You Kidding Me?

by David on January 12, 2010

At first I thought it was a bad joke. Then I checked my calendar to make sure it wasn’t April 1st. But no it is true, Sol Campbell will play for the Arsenal reserves at West Ham tonight, with the prospect of re-signing with the Gunners.

A statement on Arsenal’s web site says:

“Tonight’s reserve team to face West Ham United at Upton Park features Sol Campbell, who plays on a Reserve League registration, with a view to a permanent move back to Arsenal Football Club.”

I know that Arsenal fans have wanted Wenger to add some experience to the squad, and that the Gunners need another center-half but Sol Campbell at 35?

Can you imagine the partnership of Sol Campbell and Mikael Silvestre? Milk turns quicker than those two.

Offcourse wenger knows- we’ve had opportunities to resign some of our young players- alladier, muamba, flamini e.t.c whom are all relatively young but wenger has insisted we are not in the business of resigning players that have left the club.
We didnt push it- now he does this- this has just affirms my belief on never taking whatever wenger says seriously.

Now what’s really disturbing is he is willing to give 33years old sylvester, and 35 years old campbell, more playing time, than sylvester, who is in his MID 20s.

Very wise move.

Calm down girls! He might be signed as a backup for Big Willy or for the verminator, he’s won’t be signed to play up front or anything..plus you forget Sol is an Arsenal legend…so, behave.

Campbell better than Senderos ? I think not. Hope this doesn’t put more responsibility on Song. We saw how much we miss him against Everton. It doesn’t take much to upset the balance, look how ineffective Arshavin has become as central striker.

Dear David,
I clearly cast doubts on your opinion as being worthy of comment. were you not the half wit who mocked Wenger for persisting with 1) Song, 2) Diaby and 3)Bendtner? Yes, it was you.

You are not a mastermind like Wenger. You are a slice of pie gone off.

Crimson Tide will seek you out.

This is freaking stupid post. Sol will be a great addition to the squad with his experience and quality…yes quality! He still has it and will be a great backup for Verm n Gallas..much better than Senderos.

Have to disagree. At one point in time Campbell was better than Sanderos, but not now. With all the needs that Arsenal have, I am not impressed with the signing

It’s better to have a bigger squad no matter what, it’s not like Sol was bought to be a first team player, he’s just an alright player to have for backup and to help out the young ones.

it will be a good addition to the squad, dont forget what happend with us at back4 last season,we were out there with silly vestre.. atleast sol is much better than silly vester is. he will be very influential at back 4 as a back.

Senderos is better than Sol, of course. But the problem is Senderos do not want to be a reserve player but Sol Yes.
