Should Arsenal Give Theo A New Contract?

by David on January 26, 2012

Interesting discussion on talksport.co.uk on whether Arsenal should give Theo Walcott a new deal. Walcott’s current deal runs until June 2013 and his representatives have had two informal meetings with the club to discuss the structure of a new agreement.

According to Goal.com, Theo plans to speak to Wenger before making a decision on whether to commit himself to the Gunners.

Earlier this month, the Daily Star reported that Walcott was looking for a four-year deal worth £85,000-a-week – a higher figure than Arsenal are believed to be wanting to pay him.
And according to Thursday’s report, Arsenal want to agree terms on a new contract as soon as possible as they know their bargaining position will be weakened the longer the player’s long-term future remains unresolved.
You can give you say on the Theo situation by voting on our Facebook page on whether Theo should get a new deal.

Yes they should defiantly give him a new contract. Theo is a player who only plays well when under allot of pressure to, then as soon as people expect him to play well he slacks.
He is waiting to go through a good patch before signing a new contract so that he can get more money, but at the same time it is holding Arsenal ransom because when Gerviniho comes back the Ox will be challenging him for his position, but we can’t start the Ox there in case it deters Wallcot from resigning.
The problem with Theo is that his game is one dimensional. But even then his pace is a fantastic attribute to our team and on his day he can singlehandedly deter any team playing against us from playing a high line, which can allow allot more space and possesion for the rest of our team. Theo is greatly greatly missing Fabregas’s through ball abilities, whenever Fabregas got the ball he would look up straight away to see if Theo was in a good position and whether the pass is on. Hopefully Jack will be able to do this or learn too and that will go along way to getting Theo back to being a formidable threat.
Keep him, give him a new contract, as soon as hes signed it and stuck here start Chamberlain instead and use Theo as a super sub, he used to be a very lethal substitute and very few players would have the energy to keep up with him after sixty mins on chasing the Ox around. This will also create valuable competition for places that Arsenal lacks and may be a blessing in disguise as it may propel him to become good enough to take up the central strikers role.

Walcott shud not be granted a contract extension,or if he can improve more on his style of play, it irritating some times, he do have some chances, he can run, when he put the ball the on run while the opponet side back is behind try to enter the box is not every time you go to the corner side and cross ball to the top strikers,if opposite defenders try stop u it will be in the in box,u may shoot the ball or lay pass for strikers to score or by mistake the opponet way step on your foot or push u i believe refree will award a penalty

Sell Theo walcott. His form since he signed for us suggest he is not worth a further contract after all we the Ox who is just 18 years old and is far who is better in every sense than walcott who is in his twenties.
We also have Mayaichi comming thru looking very promising and having the technical ability far exceeds Walcott.
Walcott is fast becomming another one of our deadwoods that seams to be the fashion at Arsenal these day.
Sign on the line, then do as little as possible and save my energy, keep taking the money until whatever?

Theo Walcott has not, so far, proved himself to be anything other than average, the rest is just hype. As such he should be judged as average at this stage and paid accordingly. Should this not be acceptable then he needs to consider what might be more beneficial to him. He is definately not a 85K per week player.

Whilst I respect a players privacy they do have to face the fact that, being so high profile, fans do have a deep interest in their financial and contract arrangements with their clubs. It can be argued that their income is there affair and to a degree that`s a valid point but ,it`s also part of what the fans judge their worth by. This, plus a list of contract expiration dates would be of interest to all supporters I`m sure.

A new contract and increased wages? For what? Getting older? Because he certainly hasn’t got any better in the last few years. He doesn’t have what it takes to make it at the highest level, but fortunately there are still people who don’t realise this so let him go while we can still get decent money for him.

Actually, theo has regressed in the past few seasons. Though he is doing one or two things a bit better his overall contribution to the game is decreasing. He’s turning better, but he’s hiding even more now than he used to – unacceptable for anyone who wants to feature down the centre. Positional sense, understanding his role and providing a coherent final ball are all missing from theo’s game. He should have been sold two season’s ago to get max value for him. \

Am I singling out theo? No, you can add another seven players to the list – don’t belong, not good enough, won’t win anything.

Ox has started one prem game and his influence is far greater, that should tell you all you need to know. If wenger is truly about value for money(which I don’t believe he is) then the choice is clear. Unfortunately, the man’s misplaced loyalties and failed policies are all he has left.
