Veteran French defender Sebastien Squillaci is in London and will undergo a medical at Arsenal today as his transfer from Sevilla nears completion.
A statement on the Sevilla website read: “A transfer deal has been agreed, subject to the player passing a medical.” That transfer fee is expected to be around £6.5m for the 30-year-old.
The Spanish club also said Squillaci had asked to be left out of last week’s Champions League play-off against Braga to avoid being cup-tied.
I like the signing for a couple of reasons. One is that we have been saying all summer that Arsenal needed to sign two center-halfs. With Squillaci and Laurent Koscielny Arsenal have done that. Two is that Squillaci is 30. He is a proven talent who played in the Champions League Final while at Monaco. He gives Arsenal experience at the back and that is something that they need.

Arsenal have problems in Centre of defense at past but this new signing of Squillaci may solved the problem.Vermaelean have one year expirience with the team and Squillaci would be perfect to partner him.Koscielny was not a bad defender but still it is risky play him in the big matches.What i like about Arsenal is that all players in the pitch are attacking minded.Including Vermaelean as well.
I think Squillaci will pair with Vermaelen at CB. But, for now i like to see Koscielny pair with Vermaelen, he just prove he’s good enough to be at Arsenal CB. Wait and see what Wenger will do. And for Goalkeeper, I hope we can change to another goalkeeper, but if not, let just hope Almunia proves us all wrong.

WENGER PLEASE! PLEASE! AND PLEASE! BUY A GOLIE! THERE’S NO WORSE KEEPER IN THE WORLD THAN ALMUNIA!!! SO GET ANYBODY, EVEN IF ITS MY GRAND DAD!
I am not saying Manuel Almunia is a top ten keeper but he is not a bad keeper,give the man a break. Thats over the top.
I am glad that wenger has finally signed Squillaci who can provide as our defensive cover..being 30 he still has a couple of years of top flight football in him & will not hinder the gowth of DJOUROU..Song..& the likes of Nordvelts..he has bags of experience playing for sevilla..lyon..Monaco..& will fit well in our passing football style..however I still expect vermaelen & koscielny to be the preferred pair for Wenger
Lets hope wenger will give arsenal and it’s fans a new look in goal keeping.

of course,now we are in z way to compete & Mr AW does the best.but, we’ll be fully competed if one central defender & goalkeeper are added.for all more attention is given to goalkeeper!!!!!!!!!
