Ready to go top on Wednesday

by David on January 17, 2010

Today’s 2-0 win over Bolton means that if the Gunners can replicate this performance on Wednesday that they can go back to the top of the Premier League.

With Cesc Fabregas back bossing the game in midfield Arsenal were comfortable winners and the score could have been more, especially considering that Arsenal had two good shouts for a penalty in the first half.

What impressed me about the Gunner’s performance, was that this was not a game for free-flowing football. It never is at Bolton, especially with the home crowd fired up for the debut of new manager Owen Coyle. But unlike the earlier trip to Sunderland where Arsenal could not match the passion and intensity of their opponents, this time they could and that was what made this win so impressive.

But it was the return of Fabregas, after missing the Gunners last three matches with a hamstring injury, that was the big story. Febregas marked his return with his 13th goal of the season, which is a pretty amazing total considering the number of games he has missed through injury.

Arsene Wenger was obviously happy to see his captain back on the pitch and said this about Fabregas after the game:

“If you watched the game it is difficult to say how much we have missed him but you don’t need to explain to anyone that it is important. I do not see all the games but what is very interesting for us is Cesc gets stronger and stronger and has more personality on the pitch, like the whole team. He grows. He will be 23 this year – he is just starting.”

Arsenal are on a great role at the moment winning six and drawing two of the eight League games. On Wednesday that streak should increase by one as the Gunners go back to the top of the Premier League!

There is no reason to consider anything but a win come Wednesday, a loss would be a bigger shock than the Haiti earthquake. However, we have to come out of the game intact and that`s a bit of a worry. If what I read is true Fabregas got his fair share of attention at Bolton and I can`t see that changing.
With Aston Villa, Man Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool on the menu we need everyone on deck. So, I`ve stated the obvious but let`s not get carried away until (as they say in rugby) the fat lady sings.

Everyone at Arsenal is excellent, all we need is pray against ill luck that comes with injuries. We are a strong team any day any time but we really need to pray for God mercy. Many thanks to Fabregas, he is all what good football stands for we love you Fabulous-Fabregas. Wenger at the moment should also learn to be aggressive in challenging clubs who constantly try to unsettle our players like Fab. This is our season.
