Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will now turn his attention to getting current players signed to new contracts now that the rush of the summer transfer window is closed.
First up is Bacary Sagna, who is into the final year of his contract. Contract talks have stalled in the past but Wenger persuaded Sagna to turn down offers from France and the Middle East this summer, so hopefully he can convince him to sign a new deal.
Sagna has shown his versatility this summer, filling in at center-half and the Arsenal back-four is better when he is in the line-up than out of it.
Another player who is in the final year of his contract is Tomas Rosicky. Under appreciated by many, Rosicky is a terrific player, whose problem is staying healthy not his ability. Playing time will be harder with the arrival of Ozil, but Rosicky has shown an ability to come in and make an impact as a squad player.
The last player lined up for a new deal is Per Mertesacker, who is into the final two years of his contract. He has also been in good form and his influence in the dressing room is another reason Wenger is said to rate him so highly. His telephone conversation with Ozil was also highly influential in persuading the German midfielder to leave Real Madrid to join Arsenal.
What do you think about signing Sagna, Rosicky and Mertesacker to new deals?
