More Injury Worries

by David on December 30, 2009

A couple of pieces of bad news on the injury front this week. First Arsene Wenger said that Nicklas Bendtner is expected to be out an additional three weeks.

Bendtner was expected to be back in early December from a groin injury but it looks like late January now.

“He had hernia surgery and should be back already,” Wenger said, according to The Telegraph. “But he had a groin problem as well and the groin problem looks to last longer, so they say to me three weeks.”

Then I saw that Rob Van Persie is going to be out until May, which will put his place in next summers World Cup. Why do Arsenal players consistently take longer to recover from injuries than any other team?

“Why do Arsenal players consistently take longer to recover from injuries than any other team” ?

I posed this same question two years ago but people scoffed at the idea. In their hey days Viera, Lauren and Henry always came back from injury and had less of it.

The fact of the matter is that some of the players we have are too young to be playing a man’s game, so they get injured easily and recover harder. Others are just not well built or strong enough. In the past 4 seasons Wenger has only been buying talent without looking at the players physiqaue which is necessary for a rigorous contact sport which football is. As such we ended up with players who are not the full package, but are cheap.
