Is Arsenal’s Ownership Situation About To Get Messy?

There have been reports in the British media in recent days that Nigerian businessman Aliko Dangote is interested in buying Lady Nina Bracewell Smith’s 16 per cent stake in the club.

Lady Nina Bracewell Smith’s has put her shares up for sale and interestingly, neither of Arsernal’s two biggest shareholders, Alisher Usmanov and Stan Kroenke, are interested in buying her shares, because if they did, they would have to launch a full takeover of the club.

Dangote is reported to be a passionate football fan, but there is no indication that he is a passionate Arsenal fan.

There will be twists and turns in this story, but it would no surprise me to see Usmanov or Kroenke launch a takeover offer for Arsenal this summer.

Dangote issued a press release Monday saying:

“I can say categorically at this time that I have no intention of investing in the club and will not be acquiring a stake,
