I am reading with interest that Sol Campbell is thinking of turning down Arsenal’s one year contract offer to take a two year deal with Celtic.
My reaction reading the story was, does Sol owe Arsenal for rescuing his career and so he should sign for the Gunners for next season?
Think back to late last year. Campbell’s Notts County experiment was a disaster and he was out of football. He was out of contract and nobody wanted him. Wenger let him train with Arsenal and realized that Campbell could still play at a high level and so he signed him to a contract for the second half of the season.
Campbell went out and played much better than I anticipated last season and would make a good backup for Arsenal this coming season. But without Wenger’s help last year, Campbell would not have the option of a one year deal at Arsenal or a two year deal at Celtic. So should Campbell play for Arsenal next season or would you be ok with him going to Celtic?

err just yesterday he said he was flattered by Celtic but wants to sign a 1 year extension here. He said it may take a little time to make the deal but he wants it more than Celtic.
Does Sol owe Arsenal? ….In a word – Yes!!!!!! & to be fair – I’d like to see him stay at Arsenal. Like I wanted him to stay when he apparerntly moved to the south of France – Chateau le Pompy!!!!! If he did go to Scotland then surely he’s just used us a stepping stone!! & that’s not on. Wenger resurrected him so surely it’s only fitting that he sees out his last year with us…. & who knows, he might get an extra year after that on?
I wouldn’t be pleased but he’ll want regular football and with djourou back and at least one cb coming in, the best we can offer him is a covering role. There’s noone I’d like more as our experienced cover but if he’s going to be a first stringer in Glasgow, I wouldn’t blame him for going. I’m much more bitter at Cesc for not giving us one more year so, until Iniesta moves on, he can sit 3rd in line for their 2 CM spots, that is assuming they prefer him to Pedro who seems to play there quite happily.
It would be nice to ahve him next year but if a club is willing to give him a good two year deal at his age then Wenger wont and shouldnt stand in his way.
Gud luck to him
Shouldn’t you be asking Cesc this question???
No doubt Wenger signed Sol, albeit for only about 6 months, but bear in mind, Sol was looking elsewhere (clubs) while training at Arsenal. In fact, Arsenal fans are grateful to him, a player already past the “useful” age, for his great performance and example both on and off the field. Without Sol, what would have happened to the team…especially with Vermaelen, Gallas, Johan, injured?…. Arsenal might not even have finished 3rd!!!
campbell said yesterday he doesn’t want to go to celtic and wants to stay with arsenal. it’s a non-story
