Convincing Win Over Portsmouth

by David on December 31, 2009

Wow that was an impressive win by the Gunners at Portsmouth last night. I had predicted an Arsenal win in my preview but I did not expect that Arsenal would play so well, in what is a difficult ground to go to.

Once again Aaron Ramsey showed what a great talent he is with a brilliant solo goal and is it just me or is Alex Song playing the best football of the life at the moment? Song headed out to the African Cup after the game and he will be a big loss for the Gunners.

What really caught my eye was how Arsenal responded to Portsmouth’s physical play. One criticism over the last couple of years has been that Arsenal are too light weight and cannot compete physically with some of the teams in the Premier League. At least tonight, Arsenal showed they do have a physical side and I thought Arsenal dominated Pompey physically, especially in the first half

Wenger was happy with the win saying:

“We are up for it and we believe, no doubts. The commitment is there, the talent is there and the focus is there too. We will give it absolutely everything in the new year, we will fight for it. If we don’t believe, nobody will.”
