Great to see Cesc Fabregas back training with the Gunners today. What a boost that will give the squad ahead of the Liverpool game.
Now that the Fabregas situation has been taking care off, maybe Arsene Wenger can get something done about the goalkeeper and center-half problems that we have.
Reports today indicated that Arsenal are close to signing Montpellier’s Emir Spahic to fill the center-half hole.
Gunners full-back Bacary Sagna, who came through the ranks at Bordeaux before joining Arsenal in 2007, has watched Spahic’s progress with Montpellier with interest, and admits that he would make a good addition to the Arsenal squad.
Sagna said: “I used to follow him in French football last year and he is a good player. He’s definitely good enough to play for Arsenal and everyone will welcome him if he does come.”
I would have preferred someone with Premier League experience but it looks like Arsenal has been priced out of that market.
As for the goalkeeper, the deal for Mark Schwarzer appears to be dead and I have not heard that Arsenal is close to singing anyone.
That leaves me a little worried heading into the season with the same goalkeepers we had last season, especially with Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City appearing so early on the schedule.

I’m all for signing more players from Ligue 1. Chamakh looks like he should work out real well for us. And the center-half hole is really serious, but no defender will make up for the lack of confidence our team has (especially during set pieces) due to a lack of a legitimate #1.
I`ve said it before and I`ll say it again ` if Almunia is between the sticks at Anfield and we lose there`ll be a riot, even if it`s not his fault`. If Manchester City can be persuaded to part with Joe Hart even at a slightly inflated price get him, it will more than pay for itself in the long run.
Sorry, Sagna’s from Auxerre not Bordeaux, but apart from that, it’s a good article.
it seem wenger is now joking wit the short stopper, the economist man don;t want to sign a keeper because of money. we need the likes of jo hart or machetti. the money is not yours spend it and let us get what we need.
Those Arsenal fans do not have a stomach for a riot. Infact some of them think Arsene can do nothing wrong and can walk on water.
We all as fans and even the neutrals believe we desperately need to sign at least 2-3 more players but only the manager in his stubborness now bothering on arrongance does not see it.
I hope we do riot if we lose to any of the top five in the same manner as we did last season. It was disgraceful. Chelsea beat us 5-0 on aggregate, Man City 3-0, ManUre 4-1 even Spuds managed a 2-1 win for the 1st time in over 9years of trying. Lessons must have been learnt but judged on how we have fared in the transfer market to date where we have spent only £2M net, I do not think they have been learnt!
I think Cesc will stay. And then we need another two players. One CB and maybe one Goalkeeper. But I think Wenger will play with Fabianski this season!!
