Can someone tell Laporta to shut up?

by David on June 21, 2010

I am getting increasingly frustrated by the blatant tapping up of Premier League players by Real Madrid and Barcelona.  I thought that Real Madrid had set a new low last summer with their two year campaign to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United, but Barcelona is setting a whole new standard in their pursuit of Cesc Fabregas.

Outgoing Barcelona President Joan Laporta was quoted over the weekend as saying that he is confident that Arsenal will eventually “give in” and allow Fabregas to move back to the Nou Camp.

“Arsenal will end up giving in, but I don’t know when that will be. We will have to wait and let the professionals who are taking care of it do their work.”

Arsenal are one of the few teams that don’t need the transfer funds that a Fabregas sale will bring. We know that Wenger is extremely frugal in the transfer market so an additional £50m will not affect him that much.

I want Arsenal to take a stand and tell Laporta and the rest of his Barca team to get lost. And to also tell Fabregas that he has to honor the contract that he signed.

I’d like Fabregas to tell Pique and Messi how well he’s developed at Arsenal and that the same can happen to them if they come…
Why give them Fabregas if we can sign both of them?

I agree with the concept now to make it happen.

Well Pique ( does it pronounce “PIG”) did play for MU.. so maybe he know how it feel playing in PL, and doesn’t like it.

Here’s what you do.

Send a simple, POLITE message to: http://twitter.com/SeppBlatter

“When will FIFA act on Barcelona’s tapping up of Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas?”

That simple.
Anything IMPOLITE will defeat the object.

Shut up Laporta. Ferme la porte on your way out also!

To hell (on his own) to Pique too!! All these idiots think they know better than us all. Tell him to mind his own business whilst you are at it please.

Yes, someone can. In fact, two someones: Michel Platini and Sepp Blatter. Both EUFA and FIFA have strict rules about the proper ways to arrange for a transfer. These rules strictly forbid the kind of campaigning Barcelona have been conducting. So why haven’t they enforced their own rules? This is the real question. Does Barca have a privileged status, where rules don’t apply? Arsenal should have complained in the strongest terms months ago. Now it may be too late.

I’m not worried about Fabregas leaving. If you cast your mind back to when Arsenal made an official statement rejecting the bid proposed by Barca, they very smartly stated something along the lines of ‘Barca have respected our decision and we hope they keep to their word.’

This was a media masterstroke in itself as any further approach made by Barca will imply they broken their promise and are without honour. As such, I think Laporta is just emitting hot air to appease the fans as he has been promising them the return of Fabregas for a long time.

I don’t think, however, that being in the Spain camp is very healthy for Fabregas. He’s surrounded predominantly by players from Madrid and Barca all telling him to leave and come to their club. I honestly cannot recall a time when a national team was pressuring a player this much to transfer clubs. France haven’t done that or Italy as far back as I can remember. I just wish the governing bodies would do something about all the tapping up done by both Barca and Madrid, two clubs that are beginning to lose A LOT of their appeal to me.

Totally agree Josh. I have been worried for months that all this time with the Barca players in the Spanish camp will cause Fabregas to turn his back on Arsenal.
