Arsenal turn down £33m offer for Fabregas

by David on June 4, 2010

Arsenal have rejected a formal £33m bid from Barcelona for Cesc Fabregas and told Barca that Fabregas is not for sale (at least not at that price).

Arsenal are sticking to their guns and telling Barcelona that it will take Cristiano Ronaldo type money for Fabregas.

Arsenal statement:

“Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas is under contract with the Club until the summer of 2015. He is a highly valued member of the team and part of our future plans.

“We have followed recent speculation linking Cesc with a move away from the club but as there has never been any official approach for him, only two informal exchanges, in which we made it abundantly clear that we have no interest in transferring Cesc, we have refrained from publicly passing comment. However, yesterday evening we received an offer from Barcelona for Cesc and in response, we immediately and resolutely told them once again that we have no intention of selling our captain.

“To be clear, we will not make any kind of counterproposal or enter into any discussion. Barcelona have publicly stated that they will respect our position and we expect that they will keep their word.”

My personal view is that Cesc needs to go. It’s clear that his heart is no longer with the club. Once an offer in the region of 40M is offered we must accept and make sure the negotiations are quick. As we’ve seen over the years, our best players struggle when they leave – Viera, Petit, Overmars, Hleb to name a few. Ramsey and Wilshire will step in and do the job.

If Barcelona can,t meet Arsenal,s 60 million Euros evaluation of Cesc then they must
stop with the showmanship as this is just about politics at the Nou Camp and their new chairman who wants to slap himself on his own back ,pay up or shut up?
