Arsenal Trio Set T Return From Injury Against Spurs

by David on November 14, 2012

Three of Arsenal‘s injured players are set to make a comeback for this weekend’s derby against Tottenham.

It is expected that Theo Walcott, Wojciech Szczęsny and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will give the Gunners a boost and return for the North London derby on Saturday lunchtime.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been out for the last month with a hip injury, while Theo Walcott sustained an injury during Arsenal’s draw against Fulham last weekend.

Wojiech Szczesny has out since Arsenal thrashed Southampton two months ago, and he is expected to replace stand-in goalkeeper Vito Mannone.

However, it is not such good news for Kieran Gibbs, who has not yet recovered fully from an injury to his thigh. This means either Andre Santos or Thomas Vermaelen will stay at left-back.

Im hearing that we are going 532 with sagna koscielny mertesacker vermaelen and either coquelin or santos at left back. a midfield trio of wilshire arteta cazorla and a forward duo of giroud and podolski.
i expect a bench of
mannone jenkinson coquelin or santos ramsey rosicky chamberlain walcott
Gibbs and diaby aside i would say that is our best 18. Now that is more like it.

The 5-3-2 formation might work better, with TV5 as a sweeper. The problem with 4-4-2, apart from the dodgy defense, is that the possible wingers Walcott, Podolski, Gervinho, Ox, Arshavin and Cazorla all play better in the middle. I don’t know whether Arsene has a blind spot when it comes to wingers but the squad no longer suits 4-4-2 or 4-3-3. Then you add Santos to the mix as a full back that can’t defend and that strengthens the case for wing backs. Ox and Arshavin would be moved to Cazorlas’ role as his backups and the front two positions would be fought out between Podolski, Giroud, Walcott and Gervinho. The more you think about it the more 5-3-2 makes perfect sense.
