Spanish newspaper Marca is reporting that Arsenal is considering making a move in the summer to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdés.
According to the newspaper, the Gunners are preparing a preliminary offer to present to Barcelona, somewhere in the region of €11 million. It’s public knowledge that Barça’s goalkeeper won’t be renewing his contract with the club when it expires in 2014.
Several clubs have shown an interest in him already but Arsenal looks like the strong favourite. Arsène Wenger reportedly has decided that Wojciech Szczesny is not the answer, and that he wants a more experienced keeper.
Valdes would fight the bill as his he used to playing the ball out of the back, which is essential with Arsenal’s style of play. The only question mark with Valdes is how he will adapt to the mire physical Premier League and the high balls into the box, something other Spanish goalkeepers have struggled with.
