Arsenal sign Song to long-term deal

One way to spend your transfer budget is on signing your existing players. And that is what Arsene Wenger seems to be doing.

Last week it was Eduardo being signed to a long-term extension. This week it is Alexandre Song’s turn
as he is getting set to sign new long-term deal that will keep him at Arsenal until 2015.

One reason for the two resignings seem to be that Arsenal will not be signing anyone in the January transfer window.

One player that the Gunners had been interested in was Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh who will be out of contract this summer but Wenger has been quoted as saying he is not interested at the moment:

“At the moment I am inclined to say no [about going back for him] because I feel we have enough quality,” said the Frenchman before the weekend. “Also I want to give a chance to Carlos Vela who comes back from injury and has great performances in training.
“Bordeaux are very reluctant [to sell]. The player will be free to sign where he wants but they will not get a lot of money for three months more [on this contract].
“No [I have not enquired about him]. They are reluctant because I cannot see how they can get a player of the same quality and it will be stupid for them to sell him if they are qualified in the Champions League to make, what, £1 million Euros? They can make three times that if they have a good run in the Champions League.”

Wenger is in the right path of making players renew their contracts. Hence they will have the club at heart, united and perform well.

What he does with the players is secondary. The primary focus should be to bring trophies to the groove. There is none at the moment.

Oh maybe he does not want their heads turned and have them walking on a free like Chamakh can or a certain Flamini did. Infact, he is giving players with far less influence in the team better contracts yhan Flamini asked for $60 000 per week, you Theo! Not complaining, Im actually glad the lesson has been learnt
