Arsenal Agree Deal For Rennes Midfielder Yann M’Vila

by David on May 9, 2012

Arsene Wenger is not waiting until the end of August to do his transfer shopping this year. Hell, he isn’t even waiting until the season has ended!

With Lukas Podolski already signed, reports from France say that Arsenal have reached an agreement with Rennes for midfielder Yann M’Vila. The transfer fee is reported to be around €22 million (£17.7 million) . That transfer fee would of course be a record for Arsenal, easily surpassing the £15 million Arsenal paid Zenit St. Petersburg for Arshavin in in 2009.

Combined Podolski and M’Vila cost about £28million, a bargain in today’s market and their signings send a clear signal to Robin van Persie about the club’s ambitions.

M’Vila held talks with Inter Milan last week but has since decided he wants to join the Gunners, whether they secure Champions League football or not.

On Twitter I asked whether M’Vila was a replacement for Song, or whether the two of them could play together. The consensus was that Arsenal can play them both together in the middle of the park.

While Podolski and M’Vila will be the two big names that Arsenal sign this summer, they will not be the only players signed.

Arsenal have been strongly linked with Ajax center-back Jan Vertonghen, but recent reports suggest that he will be joining that other North London club.

Arsenal have also been linked with Blackburn’s Junior Hoilett and Fulham’s Clint Dempsey, while an experienced goalkeeper will need to be brought in to replace Almunia and Fabianski with Swansea’s Michel Vorm being the name most mentioned for that position.

it’s good sign of serious intention by Le Prof to not only be busy but active in the summer transfer market.
It’ll be good to see him sign at least a player in each department and hopefully that will convince RVP to stay on.
weldone Arsene!

All the above would be great signings!! Vorm would be good because Szczesny needs someone to challenge him for that no1 spot otherwise he will remain as sloppy as he was against Norwich.

I think Vertonghen would be a great catch too, IF we were to sign him I imagine he would spend most of his time at LB (occasionally filling in at CB and CDM) so it really depends whether he is prepared to play there full-time..

Its actually encouraging to both players and supporters of AFC,we honestly still require some experience addition, especially at the back in the goalpost, imagine what happenened against Norwich city of recent.

It’s a great signing for arsenal we don’t need to rely on dead lions to come back from injuries

I cant for the life of me think why a decent keeper like worm would give up regular first team football for a place on the bench

Alex are u crazy? it wouldnt be vertonghen playing left back it would be vermaelen as vertonghen is a far better centre back and vermaelen is a.far better left back. its always been that way which is why ajax could afford to let vermaelen go back then and why nearly all vermaelens international.caps have been won as a left back. i would love to see vermaelen playing there and whilst sagna is injured i would like to see koscielny at right back too with mertesacker and vertonghen at centre back. mvila sitting in front of em proper defence. let the defenders do the defending and the attackers do the attacking whilst wilshire arteta song rosicky ramsey diaby lansbury share the playmaking duties
szcesney
sagna mertesacker vertonghen vermaelen
mvila
wilshire arteta
walcott rvp podolski

Don`t want to start a war but Arsenal`s defence line is still not up to CL standards.

We need four centre backs for insurance. Vermaelen,( Vertonghen?), Koscieny and Mertesacker, the rest can be drafted. The two full back positions need strengthening.
Neither Gibbs nor Santos are first choice left backs so one stays as back up and a new face employed, the other is on his way. Only time will tell with Sagna but even when he recovers he needs quality support. We desperately need a settled defence who read each others minds, and we need to be able to rotate. Sczcesney needs competition or he`ll go to seed. He also needs to concentrate on his game and leave comments and opinions to those more qualified.

That`s it from me, I`ll leave the rest to Arsene Wenger. lol

half of our team would be defence if we played song and mvila together:
sagna kosc verm gibbs
song mvilla
walcott/chamberlain rosicky/wilshere gervinho/podolski
rvp

we should only be playing with one pure DM. Mvilla and Song would make the team dysfunctional.
i’d like to see:

sagna kosc verm gibbs
ARteta
walcott wilshere rosicky podolski
RVP

why the obsession with mvilla?! he’s overrated and wont bring anything more to arsenal than we have. Coquelin and ARteta are great. spend money more wisely elsewhere.
