It was not be remembered as a football classic but tonight’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool at the Emirates was important for several reasons.
The win lifts the gloom that Gunners fan have been feeling after the poor performances against Villa, Man Utd and Chelsea.
With the win Arsenal moves 8 points clear of Liverpool for that final Champions League place, all but assuring that Arsenal will be playing Champions League football next year. From a revenye and recruitement standpoint, this was a massive win.
With Chelsea’s loss to Everton and Man Utd’s draw at Villa, Arsenal sit only six points back in third. Personally I believe that is to big a gap with 12 games to go, but Arsenal do have a much easier run in than United or Chelsea. Another stumble by both team, and after the season we have had this year who could say there would not be any more twists and turns it could get very interesting come April.
A lot of the criticism for Arsenal’s play in recent weeks has been Wenger continuing player of Arshavin up front. At five foot five, he is too small to play as a target man. Without a bigger target man Arsenal have lacked width in recent weeks. Tonight Wenger started Bendtner up front and it should be no surprise that Arsenal created chances from crosses. The Arsenal goal by Diaby, came from a cross by Tomas Rosicky. That is not a goal that Arshavin could have scored.
Thoughts on the game and performance tonight?

I am sure we ‘ll have more nights like this in the near future, and there is no reason why Arsenal shouldnt win the title.May be, Wenger may be vindicated in not buying anyone in January ,but its a long way to go,lets wait and see
I know anything can happen in favoure of arsenal this season
Keep going dear Arsenal!
With Bendtner RvP and possibly Chamakh, we would have enough of target man for the next season. We could play 451 or 442 with them all. That would push arshavin back to the left flank.
Diaby has impressed me recently with his dynamism. He ought to stay in the team along side song and fab in midfield.
Maybe wenger was right in not buying anyone during January… We might have taken only 4 points out of 12 points.. the good news is we have already played utd, chelsea, liverpool, everton and villa both home and away this season!! The only tricky ties left for us would be city and spurs.
Whereas chelsea utd and liverpool still have yet to face each other for the second time.. Come May, we might even be in second place and if luck favours us, we might even win the league..
The schedule certainly favours Arsenal. They next 7 league games should generate 21 points.
pls tell cech ballack and ancieloti that they should look their back arsenal is coming because they felt 9point is too big to close now they lost at everton and they continue to drop more point till the end of the season because arsenal is winning the league.insha allah.
dis is our year.keep d faith.
